A story about a parent protecting their children from the evils of the world is effective and relatable. It’s heightened by the post-apocalyptic setting in Never Let Go, complete with a trailer that raises a lot of intriguing questions, without spoiling any big twists. One of the brothers questions if Halle Berry is telling the truth about what happened in the outside world. Is there a chance Berry is suffering from some kind of mental condition? Or maybe she truly is a loving and concerned parent, who doesn’t want to lose her sons? What’s the significance of the snake tattoo?
Alexandre Aja is one of my favorite horror movie directors. The Hills Have Eyes 2006 is high up on my list of good horror remakes, including The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2003 and Let Me In. A truly tense and spooky trailer, but my only concern is Never Let Go might rely on a big shocking twist that’ll make or break the entire movie.
