Director- Michael Sarnoski
Cast- Lupita Nyong’o, Joesph Quinn, Alex Wolff, Djimon Hounsou, Eliane Umuhire
Release Date- June 28, 2024
They’re going the prequel route, so no John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, or Cillian Murphy. Lupita Nyong’o and Djimon Hounsou should lead the way with strong performances, and Nyong’o is seemingly taking the spot for the main character here.
A Quiet Place Part II was a solid sequel, but overall it lacked the strong emotional depth in the original film. It looks like they’re going with a more grandiose blockbuster approach for Day One. It makes sense, because we’re seeing all the extreme chaos on the first day of the invasion.
Post-apocalyptic horror is one of my favorite sub-genres, because depending on how it’s done, it always feels real. You have to wonder how people and different governments would react, if we faced a catastrophic worldwide disaster. Would we unite for the future of humanity? Or would selfishness and primal survival instincts triumph over unity?
We’ll get to see exactly how it all began in Day One, and I have high hopes for the prequel.
