Coming Attractions- Silent Night, Deadly Night

Release Date- December 12, 2025

A promising trailer. I’ve always been a big fan of the Silent Night, Deadly Night films, and it looks like they’re going with a more serious and darker tone.

A LOT of noticeable differences, if we’re making comparisons to the original film. Billy in the 1984 film was traumatized from witnessing the sleazebag Santa Claus murdering his parents in front of him, and the abuse from Mother Superior just made things worse. Billy snapped, and he went on a brutal killing spree. Rohan Campbell’s Billy is clearly being portrayed as a more cold-blooded and calculating killer, and he has an accomplice! I like the idea of giving Billy a girlfriend, who’s apparently aroused by his bloodthirsty personality, because it adds another twisted layer to the movie.

The slight parallels to Halloween Ends? Rohan Campbell playing a vengeful killer in a small town in another slasher flick is definitely a freaky and eerie coincidence. Of course, Allyson in Halloween Ends didn’t want to believe Corey was a maniac, and this version of Billy doesn’t have Michael Myers as a mentor, but the similarities are impossible to ignore.

TWO callbacks to the original in the trailer! The dear head kill is a nod to what happened to Linnea Quigley’s character in the ‘84 film, and the beheading on the snowmobile in the woods. I’m not a big fan of the 2012 remake. The 2012 film tried to be more serious, but it just didn’t click with me at all. Going by the trailer, the 2025 remake will be more serious, but there’s also a nutty vibe here, with some dark humor mixed in.

The more cheesy and kind of goofy stuff was a perfect fit for the 80’s. They’d have to do a full on throwback style slasher to pull that off now. Sure, they could’ve played it safe with more fan service, but it’s not necessary. High hopes for Silent Night, Deadly Night 2025, and I’m glad they’re taking a chance on doing something different.

Rating- 9/10

Overall Thoughts- Reed defeats Reigns! Okay, he had a lot of help from Bron Breakker and a spear from Jey Uso, but scoring a pinfall victory over The OTC is still a big deal. Reed needed this. Losing two singles matches to Roman would’ve completely killed his momentum, so Bronson going over was the right call, even if they took the predictable route with interference and shenanigans to help preserve Reigns’ status. The match itself was an enjoyable street fight. Nothing special, but a handful of fun spots, and I did get a good laugh out of Reigns throwing rugby balls at Paul Heyman.

The ongoing Bloodline drama after the match? Eh, I’m kind of burnt out on The Bloodline stuff. I get it. Reigns is upset, because he wanted to prove he could beat Reed without any help. He wants to put an end to the belief that he needs his cousins to get things done. Reigns telling Jey and Jimmy that he doesn’t want to see them until Christmas tells me they’re clearly taking this storyline into 2026. Jey is also more aggressive this time around, and he’s still bitter about losing the WHC to Gunther. Maybe they’re building towards a triple threat between Roman, Jey, and Jimmy at Wrestlemania?

Stephanie Vaquer winning the Women’s Crown Jewel Championship was a foregone conclusion. WWE is all in on Vaquer, pushing her as the next big superstar in the women’s division. Tiffany, and the fact that she’s the WWE Women’s Champion, was kind of an afterthought at times, but overall, it was still a solid match.

Cena VS Styles was amazing. Two legends, slugging it out in a big match, easily lived up to the hype, a wildly entertaining and fun spectacle. Cena breaking out numerous finishers from his opponents over the years works for a handful of surprising moments, while he simultaneously pays tribute to his former rivals, or almost everyone he’s ever been in the ring with. Cena using Sister Abigail to pay homage to Bray Wyatt? The crowd coming together with the fireflies, while singing He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands was just fantastic. One of the big highlights during the match, and Cena was a little bit choked up, when he sat up and looked at the sea of lights

This is what it’s all about. Cena and Styles threw everything they had at each other, while Cena completely emptied his bag, while borrowing key maneuvers from other wrestler’s bags, because he knows this is it. No reason to hold back now on his final run, so he might as well throw all of his cards on the table.

AJ Styles’ throwback TNA gear added some nostalgia to the match, and Alicia Taylor’s special introduction for AJ (prepared by Cena) was a cool moment. I wouldn’t have known this, if AJ didn’t post it on X/Twitter, but his gear in this match is the same gear he wore in a WWE VS TNA cover on an old issue of Pro Wrestling Illustrated, an issue where he shared the cover with Cena. Phenomenal stuff!

They gave Rhea, Iyo, and The Kabuki Warriors a lot of time. It’s not a surprise, because Rhea is the big hometown hero, so it was well deserved. The setup for milking the hot tag from Iyo to Rhea really worked. Rhea got the big pop, and kudos to Asuka and Kairi for using well-placed sneaky heel work and tactics.

As a fan, I want to see Rhea back in the world title picture, but I’m guessing they’re saving Rhea VS Stephanie Vaquer for Wrestlemania, because that’s a big match. But until that happens, Ripley and Iyo need something meaningful to do, because they’re two big stars.

Rollins and Cody delivered a stellar main event. Two top guys struggling to get the best of each other in a match that featured a lot of good back and forth action. In the end, Rollins, desperate to prove he could finally beat Cody without any help, used the Rolex gifted to him by Rhodes to help him win the match. Great storytelling, with the Rolex working as a personal weapon with sentimental value attached to it, the same Rolex Cody gave Seth as a thank you for helping him defeat Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania. Seth did something far worse than backstabbing with the Rolex, he basically looked Cody in the eyes before plunging the knife deep into his heart.

Seth Rollins is one of my favorite heel characters in pro wrestling. I believe everything he says, because when Rollins isn’t dancing or cackling, he’s deadly serious. You can believe he genuinely hates CM Punk and Roman Reigns, that he would do anything to ruin their plans and aspirations.

Seth has all the tools and the accolades to be considered a top guy, but his character is still a deeply insecure man. He’s constantly bitter about having to be the number two guy behind the likes of Punk, Reigns, and Rhodes, because Rollins is the ultimate company man. It’s believable that Seth is not only willing to bleed for WWE, but he’ll die waving the company flag, if that’s what it comes down to just to prove his loyalty.

Crown Jewel: Perth was a big upgrade over Wrestlepalooza. The big matches delivered, and Seth exorcised some of his demons with a win over Cody. It’s a bummer Rollins apparently hurt his shoulder on the Coast To Coast headbutt, but it’ll be interesting to see where things go with Seth, when he returns. A lot of different routes for Rollins’ future, including feuds with Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed. Hopefully, Rollins returns as a heel. Reed, Breakker, and Heyman turning on Seth perfectly sets the stage for a triumphant return as a babyface, but Rollins is just too damn good at a playing a bad guy.

Show Highlights-

-Bronson Reed defeats Roman Reigns, Bloodline family drama continues

-Stephanie Vaquer wins 2025 Women’s Crown Jewel Championship

-John Cena defeats AJ Styles

-Rhea Ripley & Iyo Sky pick up the victory over The Kabuki Warriors

-Seth Rollins wins 2025 Men’s Crown Jewel Championship

Overall Show Rating- 8/10

Character Spotlight- Brad- Night Of The Creeps

**This post contains spoilers**

He’s young, he’s confident, his hair is perfect, and he’s the leader of a fraternity! So what’s wrong with Brad (Allan Kayser)? Well, he’s not a nice guy. To be more blunt, Brad is a jerk. Brad’s personality is a detestable mix of an asshole jock and a cocky surfer dude, who believes he’s untouchable. He’s exactly the kind of guy you’d expect to have a big ego, as the head honcho of a fraternity, the ultimate narcissist, who thinks the world should bow at his feet.

It’s almost impossible to believe Cynthia Cronenberg (Jill Whitlow) is his girlfriend, but the clock is ticking on her relationship with Brad. Brad goes too far with his bullying. His plans to toy with and humiliate Chris Romero (Jason Lively), and his friend, J.C. Hooper (Steve Marshall) backfired. Brad thought he got the last laugh, kicking one of J.C.’s crutches, which caused him to fall flat on his face. But Cynthia wasn’t amused. Cynthia dumped Brad in front of a crowd, slowly raising her middle finger to throw more salt in the wound. The Bradster’s fragile ego was shattered in front of other people, so you know he was pissed, no matter how hard he tried to hide genuine feelings of embarrassment.

Brad loses Cynthia to Chris, and his own fraternity bros are quick to poke fun at him? Ouch, that’s gotta hurt! But things only get worse for Brad, as the story unfolds. Drunk and miserable, Brad gets caught off guard outside of Cynthia’s sorority house, when one of the alien slugs jumps into his mouth. So Brad goes from being the popular big man on campus fraternity leader, to a mindless zombie infected by alien slugs? Wow. That’s a big downgrade for sure, and a hard fall from grace.

You have to tip your hat to Allan Kayser for his performance. He IS the reason why you’d want to punch Brad in the face. Kayser speaks in a weirdly pretentious cadence, adding another noticeably annoying character trait to Brad. Whether he’s simply talking, or going on one of his pompous rants, you’ll quickly notice Brad always believes he’s the most important voice in the room (or outside). No one else’s opinions should matter, because he’s the almighty Brad, and you’re not supposed to question him.

Brad’s story ended on the steps of Cynthia’s sorority house, when he wasn’t his normal self. Infested with alien slugs, Brad’s head was blown wide open by Detective Ray Cameron (Tom Atkins), causing a group of slugs to spill out of his skull. To make matters worse, Chris used the flamethrower to torch Brad’s decaying corpse. Brad lost everything, and he got exactly what he deserved, a prime example of a character receiving their comeuppance in the worst possible ways imaginable.

Chris twisted the knife after he killed Brad (with Ray’s help). Chris took one final look at Brad, staring a hole through his flaming dead body, and he calmly said, “Sorry, Brad. Don’t take it personal.” Brad would’ve loved to dish out one more snarky insult, but Chris got the last laugh, AND he saved Cynthia from Brad’s attack. The douchey ex-boyfriend was literally destroyed by a nerd, someone, who Brad believed was beneath him in the ranks of the social hierarchy on a college campus. A strange and unconventional rivalry, because Chris beat Brad, truly a full circle story, complete with an insanely brutal and gory ending.

Character Spotlight- Chris, J.C., & Cynthia- Night Of The Creeps

**This post contains spoilers**

The alien invasion has begun! Send the military, send tanks, send all of the fire power that’s available, because the world desperately needs heroes to fight back! What about Chris Romero (Jason Lively) and his best friend, J.C. Hooper (Steve Marshall)? But Chris and J.C. don’t have big muscles. They’re not skilled in hand to hand combat, and while you could say Chris knows the basics about using weapons, J.C. and Chris really don’t check off any of the boxes for a duo that’s capable of stopping crafty alien slugs.

Chris and J.C. are nerds. Chris is still carrying a heavy heart and moping around after losing his high school sweetheart. He’s socially awkward, and he’s scared to talk to women. J.C.? He’s a comedian with a quick and snappy sense of humor, a jokester, who doesn’t mind poking fun at himself and his disabilities. For a kid who’s forced to get around on crutches, J.C. still manages to have a positive outlook on life.

J.C. is the true definition of a good and loyal friend. When Chris spots Cynthia Cronenberg (Jill Whitlow), J.C. does everything he can do to help Chris. Pulling off a prank to join a fraternity, lead by a despicable tool named Brad (Allan Kayser)? Done. When Chris starts whining about J.C.’s habit to make a joke out of everything, J.C. gets annoyed and irritated, but he doesn’t abandon Chris. Chris and J.C. stick together, no matter what, even if they’re staring at an old frozen corpse!

During her first appearance, Cynthia Cronenberg gets the spotlight, complete with fitting background music for someone, who’s presented as the perfect dream girl. She’s sweet, innocent, and Cynthia has a majestic aura about herself. Okay, she’s dating Brad, but when Cynthia learns the truth about the slug infested walking corpse, who showed up at her window, she dumps Brad. Tricking two good guys into doing a prank that involves a dead body, when you had no intentions of accepting them into your fraternity, is probably a line you shouldn’t cross. And Brad kicking away one of J.C.’s crutches didn’t help things. Everyone has a breaking point.

Night Of The Creeps shows us college life can be fun. Chris has a fresh tuxedo, Brad is out of the picture, and he’s finally ready to go on his first date with Cynthia! Things are looking up for Chris…..but the invading alien slugs have other plans. J.C. is dead, after coming out on the losing end of an attack from the slugs in the bathroom. So who else is available to help Chris fight against the aliens? Detective Ray Cameron (Tom Atkins)! Yes, Ray is still haunted by the memories of finding the dismembered corpse of his high school sweetheart. But Ray is a tough wisecracking ball of fire, who won’t quit.

Still, Chris needs one more person to join his team. Outnumbered with their backs against the wall, Cynthia steps up to help Chris and Ray. One of my absolute favorite shots from Night Of The Creeps shows Chris and Cynthia together, armed with a flamethrower and Ray’s trusty twelve gauge shotgun, slowly walking towards the basement in Cynthia’s sorority house. Chris is serious, while he’s urging Cynthia’s sorority sisters to get out of the house, knowing they’re all risking their lives, if they stay inside. A cool handful of moments, and, well it’s kind of a bad ass shot, in a comical way of course.

Ray Cameron jokingly used the nicknames Spanky (Chris) and Alfalfa (J.C.) for Chris and J.C. Fitting nicknames for the duo, because you could say Chris and J.C. are two Little Rascals in their own ways. Chris starts out as a bumbling and nervous geek, but he finds his courage, as the story develops. Chris found the motivation to fight back, after he listened to J.C.’s emotional farewell message on a tape recorder. He couldn’t sit back and hide, or wait it out. No, Chris had to avenge his best friend’s death.

Did Chris, J.C., Cynthia, and Ray stop the alien invasion? Well, no. If you’ve seen the theatrical cut and the director’s cut for Night Of The Creeps, you’ll know both versions ended with cliffhangers. But Chris fought back. Chris, with Cynthia by his side, marched right into the fire to take on the alien slugs. It’s an unlikely and ironic story for an alien invasion, because Chris, J.C., and Cynthia are not exactly the cast of characters you’d expect to try and save the world.

As far as Chris goes, he survived. Filled with a strong sense of pride, while standing tall with his new girlfriend, Cynthia, Chris finally had a reason to be happy again after Ray’s sacrifice. J.C. is gone, but Chris finally pulled himself out of a miserable stupor, AND he fought through hell to transform himself into a gutsy hero? Not a bad ending for a guy, who started out as someone, who was genuinely terrified at the thought of simply talking to Cynthia.

Coming Attractions- Predator: Badlands

Release Date- November 7, 2025

Predator’s quiet resurgence on Hulu over the past couple of years is doing wonders for the franchise. Prey was phenomenal, easily the second best film in the series next to the ‘87 original. Predator: Killer Of Killers merged three separate stories with a good amount of emotional depth for one hell of a finale, complete with some cool mid-credits shots with main characters from the past.

Prey and Killer Of Killers throughly showed and explored Predator’s rich lore and detailed history throughout different time periods. Sure, they showed hints of brutal centuries-old reigns of terror in Predator 2 and Predators (2010), but with Prey and Killer Of Killers, you actually get to see everything unfold in real time.

Badlands is loaded with potential. Going by the trailer, it’s going to be a bigger and more epic Predator film compared to the previous live action installments. Elle Fanning’s Thia injects some Alien DNA into the movie, and there’s some promise revolving around a storyline featuring a Weyland-Yutani android teaming up with a young Predator, who’s out to prove himself. Hopefully, Badlands knocks it out of the park, because there’s a feeling of positivity for The Predator series FINALLY going in the right direction after so many misfires.

Coming Attractions- We Bury The Dead

Release Date- January 2, 2026

There’s no denying the post-apocalyptic landscape for We Bury The Dead looks great in the trailer. Usually, I prefer zombie films with a more serious tone. Daisy Ridley’s Ava searching for her husband? It’s a simple and effective storyline. Of course, I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I’m already hoping she’ll find him alive and well, knowing Ava will have to fight through a mess of vicious attacks from zombies and other dangerous obstacles.

The story will obviously go one of two ways: Ava finds her husband, alert (or alert enough) and normal, and the movie concludes with a triumphant and teary reunion. The second possible route? Ava’s husband is infected, and she’ll be the one, who’s forced to murder him, saving herself, while also delivering a gut-wrenching mercy killing. Either way, I’m looking forward to We Bury The Dead, and there’s a chance it could be one of the early sleeper hits for horror movies next year.

Coming Attractions- Shelby Oaks

Release Date- October 24, 2025

I’m always a sucker for horror movies about a small town with a dark past, a town that’s also hiding insidious secrets from the outside world. While I’m not completely blown away by the trailer for Shelby Oaks, I’m hoping there’s a chance it’ll be a decent or solid horror flick. Mixing in found-footage with clips from the news adds more realism to Shelby Oaks. My only concern is, they’ll use one too many jumpscares, and hopefully they won’t settle for the need to rely on the usual found-footage cliches.

Coming Attractions- Psycho Killer

Release Date- February 20, 2026

A creepy and unnerving trailer for Psycho Killer. Georgina Campbell’s Jane is obviously way in over her head. She’s chasing a sadistic killer, but she’s motivated by vengeance to catch the man, who murdered her husband in front of her.

The big question is, how far is Jane willing to go to stop the killer? She’ll have to go down a rabbit hole filled with evil and satanism, and I’m wondering if Jane has some kind of personal connection to the killer. Maybe there’s a specific reason why he chose her? Psycho Killer’s first trailer is fantastic. If we’re comparing vibes and similarities, it’s easy to point to Longlegs and Se7en for this one, and Gavin Polone’s directorial debut has all the makings of being something special.

Coming Attractions- Cold Storage

Release Date- February 6, 2026

Lots of nasty gore, exploding bodies, AND a good cast? I’m all in for Cold Storage. It’s a completely bonkers trailer, loaded with tons of silly and over the top carnage, and some good laughs. The teaser also shows signs of a fun and energetic horror comedy, featuring a grisly and morbid sense of humor.

I’ve always been a big fan of David Koepp. He’s the author of the Cold Storage novel, and he wrote the screenplay, so you have to believe it’ll be a faithful adaptation of the source material. I’m going to put the book on my must-read list, because Cold Storage has all the right ingredients for a memorable film.

Coming Attractions- Send Help

Release Date- January 30, 2026

I’ll watch anything with Sam Raimi’s name attached to it. The trailer for Send Help is absolutely nuts. During the opening moments, you might get the impression it’s a trailer for some kind of quirky comedy about a nerdy and shy employee fighting back against her asshole boss, but the chaos and the madness hits at the right moment.

Some good laughs for a more aggressive and demented version of Rachel McAdams turning the tables on her boss, the egotistical bully with a god complex. Linda Liddle is a fitting name for McAdams’ character, the mousy employee, who’s in a position to toy with and punish O’Brien’s Bradley. The dark humor in the trailer is hilarious, and I’m almost sure the hand sticking out of the sand is a nod to the original Evil Dead’s poster.

Coming Attractions- Keeper

Release Date- November 14, 2025

Osgood Perkins consistently delivers unique and dark horror films. The trailer for Keeper is cleverly put together, giving off the impression that you’re watching two trailers in one. It starts off showing Liz’s point of view for what’s going on in the marriage. After that, they show Malcolm’s side of the story, more startling and creepy images, and it’s clear Liz and Malcolm are going through a rough patch.

Keeper’s trailer shows a lot, but you’re still not entirely sure about what’s going on here. Lots of teasing for a mysterious, dark, and creepy horror film about a married couple fighting off malevolent forces in a quiet and isolated setting. A November release date seems kind of odd for this one, but I’m still hoping for the best.

AEW World Championship- Adam Page (Champion) VS Kyle Fletcher

Winner- Adam Page

Rating- 8/10

Overall Thoughts- Good main event. I never believed Hangman was in any real danger of losing the title, but the match told a good story. Fletcher, the scrappy and cocky young challenger going up against the champ, determined to show everyone he’s exactly where he should be. Some nice heel work from Fletcher (targeting Hangman’s shoulder and ripping off the therapeutical tape), but in the end, Hangman was right: Kyle Fletcher wasn’t ready.

All of the gimmick matches delivered. Mox VS Darby was easily my favorite. It’s exactly the kind of match I’d expect from two known violent and batshit crazy wrestlers. Also, some bonus points for Bryan Danielson helping Darby without getting directly involved in the match, so he could keep his promise.

Statlander winning the AEW Women’s World Championship was the big feel-good moment of the show. Statlander is someone, who’s always been on the cusp of climbing to the top of the mountain, but injuries derailed whatever momentum she had. Statlander finally winning the big one was a nice shocker, because I fully expected Toni Storm to retain.

Edge and Christian VS FTR? Eh, it was a good match, but they got too caught up in the near falls towards the end. One too many missed opportunities to end the match on a high note for me. Beth Phoenix’s debut, and the role she played after the match was a callback to Edge’s feud with the Judgement Day, where they forced him to watch Rhea Ripley hit a Conchairto on Beth at Extreme Rules. It’s almost impossible to ignore the similarities. We’ll have to wait and see, if Beth’s appearance was a one-off deal. You just know Cope is looking for revenge now, and I’m sure a gimmick match is coming somewhere down the line.

I enjoyed Mercedes VS Riho, but I’m hoping AEW is working towards building up someone, who’s a believable threat to end her title reign. It was pretty much a foregone conclusion that Mercedes would retain here. But I’m guessing Mercedes surpassing the length of Jade Cargill’s reign is the endgame, so it’ll be a while before she drops the TBS Championship.

As expected, Eddie Kingston had a lot of fire for his big return match. Unfortunately, the match itself was a letdown. A noticeably botched finish, but hopefully the pairing with Hook will lead to something productive for both men. Although, when the H symbol appeared, Hook barely got any kind of reaction at all. It was mostly silence. When Hook walked down the ramp? A lukewarm reception. The pairing of two New York guys definitely has some potential, so there’s a chance Hook will get something out of joining forces with Kingston.

Jack Perry returning as a face was the right move. His heel character and all of the Scapegoat stuff never worked for me. I always got the impression he was trying way too hard to be a dick. It just wasn’t convincing, but the crowd went nuts for Perry and Luchasaurus joining forces again, so that’s a good sign.

I’m also wondering what’s next for MJF. The guy has been working his ass off recently, so maybe he just needs a break for a while.

Show Highlights-

-Hangman retains

- Kris Statlander wins AEW Women’s World Chanpionship

-Video package showing Luchasaurus’ resurrection

-Pac returns to help Jon Moxley defeat Darby Allin

-Mark Briscoe decisively beats MJF

-Beth Phoenix debuts

-Darby Allin sets Jon Moxley on fire

-Jack Perry returns, reforms Jurassic Express with Luchasaurus

Overall Thoughts- We’re in the final stages of Cena’s retirement run….and they open the show with a glorified squash match? I just don’t understand it. They pushed Cena VS Lesnar as the marquee matchup, and this is what they decided to do? But I should’ve known something wasn’t right, when they decided to start off the show with this one.

Cena’s farewell tour was finally going in the right direction, after they abandoned that weird heel turn that just wasn’t working out at all. They were aiming for a callback to the Summerslam 2014 (Michael Cole mentioned it on commentary) match. I get that, but the big difference is, when Brock Lesnar demolished Cena in that match, it was genuinely shocking to see John Cena suffer through a decisive beating. He was manhandled, but this was just disappointing.

It’s to the point, where you can count Cena’s remaining dates on one hand now. Lesnar has more than enough accolades under his belt at this point, and he’s Brock Freaking Lesnar! I just don’t see the need, or a sense of urgency to make him look invincible, so they can build up momentum for whatever WWE is planning to do with Brock going forward.

A lot of questions for Paul Heyman introducing Lesnar. Was this just a one-off thing for The Beast and his advocate? Or, is Heyman working on another favor with Lesnar? Survivor Series is coming up, so maybe there’s a chance Lesnar fills the role of a mercenary for The Vision somewhere down the line, as Heyman’s secret weapon.

The tag match between The Vision and The Usos was starting to heat up, but Jey’s freak accident with the chair undoubtedly derailed the final stages of the match. LA Knight stayed true to his character as the special guest ref. Using Knight as the ref was probably the best option to go with. He’s still involved in the storyline, and Knight refusing to raise Reed’s hand was a nice touch.

AJ Lee is back! There’s no denying the match was put together and structured in a way that would benefit Lee, but I still had a blast with this one. No real signs of ring rust on AJ, the entire match was a lot of fun, and the comedy spots were hilarious. Also, Becky Lynch deserves a lot of credit for the build leading up to the match. She was fantastic, playing the annoying and pushy jerk, and the promos with Punk were pretty good.

Iyo Sky VS Stephanie Vaquer easily takes the top spot for the best match. Sky has a seemingly endless gas tank, and she did a great job of selling the knee injury. A strong match with lots of action, while Sky and Vaquer struggled to get the upper hand on each other, complete with the right winner. Vaquer needed this more than Iyo. Stephanie’s triumphant crowning moment on the main roster was incredible, and Iyo was the right opponent.

Drew lost again! Cody VS Drew wasn’t bad, but for a world title main event, the match severely lacked any kind of drama or believable tense moments. I never believed Cody was in any real danger of losing the title, and what’s next for Drew? Sure, McIntyre is someone, who will always have the credibility to work main event feuds as a heel, but he lost another big match here. You have to believe Drew is starting at the bottom of the ladder again, and it’ll probably be a long time before he gets anywhere near the top.

Was Wrestlepalooza a bad PLE? No, but with all the hoopla behind WWE’s big debut on ESPN, it’s safe to say Wrestlepalooza didn’t live up to the hype. Triple H’s introduction, a really good opening video package (with LOTS of pyro), and Pat McAffe joined commentary for a while. WWE obviously wanted Wrestlepalooza to be a big deal, but it’s a painfully average show.

Wrestlepalooza would’ve been a forgettable PLE without the mixed tag and Iyo VS Stephanie. The rest of the card? I just couldn’t shake the feeling that certain matches could’ve happened on Raw or Smackdown. Crown Jewel: Perth is right around the corner. Hopefully Australia is an upgrade over this, because Wrestlepalooza was mostly a big disappointment.

Overall Thoughts-

Je’Von Evans has IT. The charisma, the human highlight reel potential, and he’s still young. Briggs VS Evans worked as entertaining opening match, with Je’Von fighting through and selling his injuries. The Young OG gutted it out to defeat Briggs, earning a hard-fought victory.

Eh, the Speed Championship is not for me. I couldn’t get into it, when the title was exclusive to X/Twitter, and while you can say it’s a unique concept, Speed title matches are largely forgettable. Lots of shenanigans towards the end, and it looks like we’re getting more of the Lash Legend/Jaida Parker feud.

I expected more intense hatred, but Blake Monroe VS Jordynne Grace was a fun gimmick match. The pink weapons and the bag of diamonds were perfect fits for Monroe’s character, and Blake used scissors to cut Grace’s hair! Interested to see what’s next for Monroe, and maybe Jordynne resumes her chase for the Women’s Championship?

Jacy VS Lola is my pick for No Mercy’s best match. A hot crowd for Lola Vice, the hometown hero, and a few good bits of drama with the shots of Lola’s family in the front row cheering her on. Vice’s selling for the back injury added to the struggle to defeat Jayne. But the important thing here is, Lola still looked strong after the loss. You could say she would’ve won the title, but Fallon Henley interfered, and Lola was attacked by a mysterious woman dressed in all black. They’re obviously going in the direction for Lola feuding with the mystery attacker, but Vice has a strong case for a rematch.

A lot of mixed feelings about the main event. Some nice back and forth action, and a solid David VS Goliath struggle, but I expected a stronger ending. Two DDTs in the ring, four total DDTs, if we’re counting the one on the announcer’s table and on the floor outside, and that’s it? I’m not saying it’s a bad finish, but Oba Femi was a dominant, and seemingly unstoppable champion. Yes, you can say the moment itself with Oba losing was a true jaw-dropper, but the closing sequence lacked a lot of fire for Ricky Saints slaying The Ruler Of NXT.

Still, I’m sure Saints will be a good, or potentially great champion. Oba Femi has to be on his way to the main roster now, right? Femi basically conquered all of NXT. There’s nothing left for him to do, and I’m genuinely hoping for a bright future on Raw or Smackdown. The guy has to much potential to be squandered or wasted, so hopefully they’ll have a solid plan in place for him when he arrives.

The Iceman (2012)(2025 Redo)

**This post contains spoilers**

The Story- Unbeknownst to his wife, Deborah (Winona Ryder), and his daughters, Anabel (McKaley Miller) and Betsy (Megan Sherrill), Richard Kuklinski (Michael Shannon) lives a secret double life as a hitman, working exclusively for Roy DeMeo (Ray Liotta). Richard’s relationship with Roy hits a snag, so Richard forms a duo with Robert Pronge (Chris Evans) to fulfill more murder contracts.

After a botched hit, Richard draws the ire of Leo Merks (Robert Davi), and Richard runs into more problems after threats from an irate Roy Demeo. The arrival of Dominick Provenzano (Eduardo Yanez) further complicates a messy situation, as Richard struggles to keep his family life separate from the seedy underworld of a contract killer and the mafia.

My Thoughts- Michael Shannon is undoubtedly one of the masters for showing believable rage, and his talents are on full display here, including the tirades, the tantrums, and his facial expressions. Shannon does a phenomenal job of convincing you that Richard Kuklinski is a seemingly normal guy, with a hushed voice on the surface, but he’s also a ticking time bomb, who’s capable of exploding in the blink of an eye. You really get to see how dangerous Richard’s temper is in certain scenes, when his anger slowly reaches a boiling point, because you know something bad is about to happen.

But there’s another side of Richard. At home, and around his family, Richard is the dedicated husband and a loving father. Michael Shannon nails the family guy side of Richard. Kuklinski was a violent mess of a man, but there’s no denying the fact that he truly loved his family. Shannon also shows a calmer and more normal version of Richard. The first coffee date with Deborah and his speech at Anabel’s birthday party? You won’t see a raging lunatic or The Iceman. No, Richard is socially awkward, and he’s noticeably nervous during both scenes.

Winona Ryder truly delivers a good performance as Deborah. Ryder plays the sweet and innocent wife, but she’s also not afraid to stand up to Richard, to push back, and Deborah calls Richard out on his BS. Shannon and Ryder share believable chemistry together, as a married couple going through their ups and downs.

The relationship between Deborah and Richard is a strange one. Deborah is the pure and good-hearted woman, who’s married to Richard, the fire-breathing dragon. Richard and Deborah’s marriage adds another emotional layer to the movie, more drama for the good woman, who married a monster with horrible secrets.

Ray Liotta? He was always a perfect fit for mob or mob related movies. Liotta excelled at playing a jerk, and he delivers as Roy DeMeo, a mean and merciless bastard. John Ventimiglia has a handful of moments as one of DeMeo’s goons. And a thumbs up for David Schwimmer playing the clueless dope, who makes one too many stupid mistakes, as the guy, who just can’t get out of his own way.

Chris Evans’ Robert Pronge teaming up with Kuklinski adds some dark humor to the movie. Evans’ notable performance as the hitman, who moonlights as an ice cream truck driver is one of the highlights here. Chris Evans knocks it out of the park, because you can easily see Pronge is completely insane. Unlike Richard, Pronge doesn’t have a moral code, none whatsoever. If he has to kill women and children, he will, no questions asked.

Pronge casually and gleefully talks about freezing dead bodies, how he easily chops up corpses, and Pronge openly brags about the conveniences of murdering people with cyanide. The dynamic between Pronge and Kuklinski adds another sinister layer to the movie, because you’re looking at two extremely dangerous men working together. You could say Pronge is more of a cerebral and crafty assassin, while Richard was a far more direct and brutal killer. As the story progresses, the partnership between the two gets more tense after two botched hits.

It’s a setup! Dominick Provenzano reveals himself as an undercover agent, and Richard is hauled off to jail for the rest of his life. A surprising ending to Richard’s story? Well, no, it’s not, not at all. Look, even if you don’t know anything about Richard Kuklinski, or his story, hitmen and serial killers don’t have happy endings. SOMETHING bad always happens, when they’re ready to or close to getting out of the life. It’s a tale as old as time itself.

But the big sting operation to end the movie brings the drama. Richard locking eyes with Deborah, as the police car drives off is one moment that sticks out for me. Notice the reactions. Deborah is heartbroken, confused, and she’s completely hysterical. Richard? Stone faced. After he calms down, no tears, he’s not banging on the window, and he doesn’t have any reassuring words for his wife. Why? Well, it’s easy to assume Richard finally accepted his fate. No more hiding, or lies for Deborah, because the truth about who he was, and his second life was going to be exposed soon.

Fact or fiction? It’s the big question to ask about Richard Kuklinski’s life as a mafia hitman. Did he work for Roy DeMeo? Is Kuklinski’s actual total kill count greatly exaggerated? Did he work for other mafia families? I just finished reading The Ice Man: Confessions Of A Mafia Contract Killer, by Philip Carlo, so I wanted to rewatch The Iceman.

It’s easy to come to the conclusion that Kuklinski was full of shit, or at least mostly full of it. One thing in Carlo’s book that caught my eyes was Kuklinski supposedly being DeMeo’s “secret weapon.” Okay, IF Kuklinski was DeMeo’s big secret, then how is it possible Richard was filling murder contracts with other mafia families, traveling across the US to execute his targets, and his services were requested in Europe and South America? How did other people know about his efficiency, if he shared a tight-lipped relationship with DeMeo? You’re telling me word-of-mouth praises about Kuklinski’s work reached other parts of the world? It doesn’t make any sense. Roy DeMeo and his crew were a pack of vicious and sadistic killers, so why would they need “The Big Guy” to kill people for them?

And some of the stories about the people Kuklinski allegedly killed are a bit too theatrical and over the top. One good example here is the scene, with James Franco playing a creepy pervert. Marty (Franco) starts begging for God’s help, and Kuklinski tells him he’ll spare his life, if God comes down and intervenes. Well, you could probably guess what happens next, but it’s one of Kuklinski’s more infamous stories about his days as a hitman.

The hits for high profiled mafia bosses? Kuklinski was supposedly requested to join the hit squads to take out big time mafia bosses. But going by his own words, there was no reason at all for Kuklinski to participate. Why? Because he was a stealthy killer, and they wouldn’t see him coming? Bottom line, his presence wasn’t necessary, and they already had more than enough guns on the scene.

All of the random murders, where Kuklinski killed people to hone his craft, or if someone simply did something to piss him off? Yeah, I have a hard time believing those stories. There’s a story in the book about Kuklinski shooting a hitchhiker, because the guy flipped him off. Kuklinski felt disrespected, so he shot the hitchhiker to death, where anyone could see him.

The funny thing about Philip Carlo’s book is, once you know and start to realize it’s mostly fabricated bullshit, Confessions Of A Mafia Contract Killer reads like a crime fiction novel, or a mafia thriller. I can understand being lucky, but no one is that lucky. The book has numerous stories from Richard about how he killed people, sometimes luring them to their deaths with a flat tire, but over the years, someone would’ve inevitably caught him in the act.

There’s also a lot to unpack with Richard’s family life. The Iceman definitely leans in the direction of trying to show a more sympathetic tone for Kuklinski. He had a terrible childhood. His father was an abusive asshole, and maybe you could make the argument that Richard never had a chance.

Well, there’s a lot of truths about Richard’s upbringing. Stanley, his father, was a monster. Kuklinski himself said he should’ve killed him, and he regretted missing the chance to do it. And Richard’s mother, in his own words, was “cancer,” because she was also someone, who could be physically abusive.

The Iceman tries to paint Richard and Deborah’s marriage as this mushy fairy tale-esque romance, complete with the turmoil and trials and tribulations of any other married couple, but the real story doesn’t fall under the happily ever after tab.

Richard was violent towards his real wife, Barbara. It didn’t matter if they were in front of their children, or alone in the house, or the same room together, Richard wouldn’t hesitate to fly off the handle and beat Barbara. Also, Kuklinski was a very possessive man. Richard stabbed Barbara with a knife and he threatened to kill her family in the early stages of their relationship, because Barbara was feeling smothered by Richard. His idea of pursuing Barbara revolved around becoming an obsessive stalker, and she couldn’t take it anymore.

Kuklinski did have two daughters named Merrick and Chris. After everything he did, Merrick still deeply loved her father. But there was a time, where Chris and Barbara plotted to kill Richard together. Chris and Barbara ultimately decided against it, because it was too risky, if they didn’t finish the job. Richard also had a son named Dwayne with Barbara. Only two daughters in The Iceman. No son, no references, or any hints for a third child. It’s no real surprise, but Dwayne was not fond of Richard growing up.

If you’ve ever seen any of the HBO interviews/documentaries, Kuklinski actually comes off as someone that’s possibly credible. Kuklinski calmly sits down, going over the gruesome details of his murders, cracking a sinister grin as he goes every now and then. He was a big guy, and Kuklinski had a cold demeanor. He looked the part, and he played it well. To add to that, Kuklinski was a captivating storyteller. More than capable of having anyone, who listened to him hanging on his every word, Kuklinski’s gory tales checked off all the boxes for true crime lore.

Of course, there’s always a chance Kuklinski dabbled in mob related activities. Maybe he also filled a handful of murder contracts? Who knows for sure, but everything starts to go off the rails, when Kuklinski’s status as a hitman reaches the levels of an underground legend, with cat-like reflexes, who eluded certain death and law enforcement agencies for years. Tearing off the layers of fiction, Kuklinski was certainly a predator, a serial killer, a crook, and a guy, who also made money from bootlegging porn. And Richard apparently blew a lot of his money, because he was a careless gambling addict.

But one thing’s for sure, Kuklinski’s story is a perfect fit for a Hollywood movie. What can or what can’t be corroborated, the lies, and all the smoke and mirrors. Sure, you can easily label Richard Kuklinski as a pathological liar. Still, the family man living in the suburbs of New Jersey, while he quietly operates in the shadows as a mafia hitman, is a story that’s capable of raising eyebrows.

The Iceman plays out like a predictable true crime drama. It moves from point A to point B and so on. And as soon as Richard realizes the big problem with his cyanide from Dominick, you know what’s about to happen. But the cast is simply excellent from top to bottom, including Robert Davi and Stephen Dorff. During Dorff’s first and only appearance in the movie, you’ll immediately know Joesph Kuklinski is a massive slimeball. Joesph Kuklinski never deserved an ounce of sympathy, and rotting in prison was a justified punishment for him.

Lots of violence and a decent amount of blood for the story about an ice-cold killer. Good acting saves The Iceman from being a complete dud. There’s a lot of potential for a truly great film here, but they weirdly settled for going through the motions from start to finish, the kind of movie, where you’ll know what happens before it actually happens.

Character Spotlight- Estelle- Hardcore Henry

**This post contains spoilers**

Henry wakes up in a strange high-tech laboratory, that happens to be hovering high in the sky. He’s missing an arm and a leg. His memories and his past? One big blur. And Henry’s being reborn as a super soldier! That’s a lot to deal with, after being unconscious, or frozen in a form cryostasis for a presumably long time.

Luckily, a scientist named Estelle (Haley Bennett) is tasked with Henry’s rehabilitation. She’s going to guide him through this strange journey, and Estelle is also Henry’s wife!

Henry’s on the road to recovery and a new life, but Akan (Danila Kozlovsky) has other plans. Akan, an evil and powerful telepath, terrorizes and pursues Henry, with some help from his mercenaries. To make matters worse, Akan kidnaps Estelle.

Henry teams up with Jimmy (Sharlto Copley) to storm Akan’s headquarters. It’s a risky mission to stop Akan’s evil plans and rescue Estelle……but Estelle is not Henry’s wife? And she’s actually married to Akan? Imagine risking your life to save someone, because you believed she was your wife, someone, who actually cared about helping you.

Turns out, not only is she a liar, but she’s married to the enemy. And Estelle is the one, who came up with idea to convince Henry he was her husband. For Estelle, Henry was nothing more than a lab rat for Akan’s field test, because he wanted to see how one of his super soldiers handled  deadly scenarios, testing his true potential.

Haley Bennett deserves a round of applause for her performance. When we’re introduced to Estelle during the opening moments of the movie, it’s easy to buy into her as the innocent scientist, who’s a soothing presence for a scared and confused Henry. She’s the loving and soft-spoken wife, a believable damsel in distress, complete with crocodile tears, and next to Jimmy, she’s supposed to be one of only two people filling the roles for Henry’s support system.

But things change, when Estelle shows her true colors. Picture this, Henry is on the ground after Akan brutally manhandles him. He’s out of it, broken and beaten down. Guess what Estelle does? She gloats about how her plan was a success, brags about how smart she is, and how she knew Henry was the chosen one, after he pulled her into the escape pod at the laboratory. And Estelle shows absolutely no concern whatsoever for Henry, who’s lying on the ground right in front of her. Man that’s cold.

Estelle and Akan got a little bit too cocky. They were sure they outsmarted Henry, got the best of him, and they used him for their experiment. Henry served his purpose, so it was time to throw him out like yesterday’s trash. But they didn’t expect Henry to make one last push, and fiercely fight back. All things considered, that’s kind of a weird mindset to have, because Henry killed A LOT of people, with Jimmy popping in to help every now and then.

Henry took care of Akan, and Estelle had the audacity to beg for mercy? Estelle pleads for Henry’s help, as she’s hanging on by her fingertips outside of the helicopter, urging Henry to listen to his heart. Henry’s response? He slams the door shut on Estelle’s fingers, causing her to fall to her death. A delusional mindset, and insane levels of arrogance from Estelle. Did Estelle really believe Henry would just forgive her after everything she did? And she tried to murder him inside of the helicopter, repeatedly blasting away, one bullet at a time.

Henry triumphs, and Estelle’s anger and her ego got the best of her. A fitting ending for one half of a husband and wife duo, working together as two diabolical masterminds, who wanted to take over the world.

Character Spotlight- Akan- Hardcore Henry

**This post contains spoilers**

A strong telepath, he’s rich, and he’s a sociopathic jerk! Similar to so many evildoers before him, Akan (Danila Kozlovsky) has dreams of world domination. Assisted by his wife, Estelle (Haley Bennett), and his army of super soldiers, a power-hungry Akan is determined to eradicate anyone, who tries to stop him.

Akan is all-powerful. He’s seemingly unstoppable, but Akan has two big problems to worry about: Henry and Jimmy (Sharlto Copley). Henry, Akan’s new and promising star super soldier, impressively passed his field test. Jimmy? Akan’s ex-scientist is motivated by revenge, after Akan crippled him for his failures. Akan should’ve had any easy path to ruling the world, but things didn’t work out that way.

Akan convincingly thrashed and brutalized Henry during the final battle on the rooftop. But Akan celebrated a little bit too early, giving a rejuvenated Henry an opening to defeat him. Akan was an asshole bully, who enjoyed toying with and pushing Henry around throughout the movie. His ego wouldn’t allow him to believe Henry had a realistic shot at defeating him. Akan FINALLY decided it was time to take things seriously during the fight with Henry, but it was too late. Henry, using the wires connected to one of his eyeballs, to slice off half of Akan’s head? Yikes! Now that’s a gory ending for someone, who truly deserved his comeuppance, in the worst possible ways imaginable.

You have to give a lot of credit to Danila Kozlovsky, because Akan doesn’t work without his performance. Akan is clearly nuts, a madman with a dark sense of humor, but Kozlovsky never comes off as being too silly. On the surface, you might take one look at Akan, and you’ll think this guy is way too goofy to be the main villain. But Kozlovsky will quickly remind you Akan is an extremely dangerous man, who’s willing to do horrible things to get what he wants.

Akan should’ve been invincible. Jimmy and his gang of avatars caused a few problems, some inconveniences along the way. But Henry, a super soldier, slowly learning his abilities during a field test, shouldn’t have been a real challenge for him. Henry didn’t just kill Akan, he literally tore him to shreds (with an assist from the rotor blades on the helicopter). Why? Because Akan was too full of himself, and that kind of cocky mindset ultimately led to his downfall.

Character Spotlight- Jimmy- Hardcore Henry

**This post contains spoilers**

Jimmy (Sharlto Copley) is a masterful scientist, who specializes in making super soldiers! But there’s one big problem: Akan (Danila Kozlovsky) is his boss. Imagine having a demanding nutcase constantly breathing down your neck, if you’re not meeting his ridiculously high standards. That’s a lot of stress, knowing you’re one mistake away from suffering the most severe punishments imaginable.

During the early stages of the process, one particular batch of Jimmy’s super soldiers spectacularly failed. They were nothing more than a group of malfunctioning klutzes. Akan’s response? Not only did Akan lock Jimmy in the room with the broken super soldiers, giving them the chance to viciously attack him, Akan used his powers to paralyze Jimmy.

So what does Jimmy do next? Does he simply allow Akan to execute his plans for world domination? No! Jimmy, motivated by revenge, dedicates his life to stopping and killing Akan. Supported by Henry and his unique avatars, Jimmy fiercely goes after Akan, determined to put an end to his devious plans.

Jimmy’s avatars? You’ll see a variety of different characters, including a distinguished soldier, a coked-out party animal, a punk rock rebel, complete with a Mohawk and a leather jacket, and an eccentric homeless man.

Sharlto Copley’s energetic and versatile performance brings the laughs, and a handful of wildly entertaining scenes, but things change towards the end. When Henry removes the headset on his motorized wheelchair, you’ll see the real Jimmy, a broken and bitter man consumed by his hatred for Akan.

There’s a flashback that shows a different version of Jimmy before Akan crippled him. Jimmy was this harmless and nerdy guy, with a soft voice. Pay close attention to the scene, where Henry tries to get Jimmy to come to his senses, and you can hear the anger in Jimmy’s voice, rage coming from a man, who’s stuck in an immobile body for the rest of his life.

The avatars gave Jimmy a chance to be normal, to live life freely, and of course, the chance to destroy Akan’s empire. Jimmy had a chance to enjoy a lot of freedom and happiness through his avatars, and you can see it throughout the movie.

So what about Henry? Jimmy completely snapped, when he believed Henry was working as a spy for Akan. Jimmy had to spend a lot of time alone. Henry was supposed to be his friend, so Jimmy couldn’t handle the thought of someone he trusted possibly betraying him. He actually tried to kill Henry!

Towards the end of the movie, Henry and Jimmy share an emotional moment in the elevator, as Henry prepares to fight Akan and his army of super soldiers alone. It’s a big scene and a full circle moment for Jimmy, because he finally realizes Henry was always a true friend. You’ll also see an admission of guilt from Jimmy, when he unlocks Henry’s real memories. Jimmy wanted a friend, but he was also using Henry as a tool to fulfill his quest for vengeance against Akan. So Jimmy did not want Henry to clearly remember his past, because Henry might’ve asked (through hand gestures, or maybe written notes) one too many questions.

Henry killed Akan, and Jimmy had a chance to say his goodbyes before he died. Is it a bittersweet ending? Bleeding to death in an elevator? Not entirely. Akan is gone, a determined Jimmy gave it everything he had, fighting his way through pesky waves of enemies, and Jimmy didn’t die alone. Henry was right there by his side, as Jimmy took his last breath. Jimmy’s only possible regret is, he didn’t live long enough to witness Akan’s brutal demise with his own eyes, because I’m sure Jimmy would’ve loved to keep Akan’s severed head as a souvenir.

Character Spotlight- Henry- Hardcore Henry

**This post contains spoilers**

Half man, half machine, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, Henry is the future of super soldiers! But Henry doesn’t have flashy superpowers? He can’t fly? He doesn’t have any catchy one-liners, or a big spirited monologue? So what’s so special about him?

There’s something mysterious about this particular voiceless super soldier, because we don’t know a lot about Henry. Sure, they give us bits and pieces of Henry’s story and his past. His dad was a mechanic. Henry was obviously picked on a lot as a kid, and if we’re going by his grisly injuries, it’s safe to assume Henry was in the military. Maybe he was the victim of a catastrophic attack, or is there a chance he worked in law enforcement? So many different possibilities, including Henry being a soldier for an organized crime family.

No, Henry is not as smooth, crisp, and brutal as John Wick, and he’s not a Terminator. Henry struggles during the chase and the fight with Slick Dimitry (Andrei Dementiev). Akan (Danila Kozlovsky) EASILY swats Henry away like a fly for the vast majority of the movie, and Henry literally can’t lay a finger on Akan, because he’s just too powerful.

Henry is learning as he goes. The fights are sloppy, rough, and Henry struggles every now and then. But during Henry’s journey, you can see flashes of confidence. Little by little, he truly becomes Hardcore Henry. That’s what I’ve always loved about Henry’s character development: it’s messy, because he’s not simply tearing through all the bad guys with ease. Henry looks like a klutz at times, but in the end, he puts all of the pieces together to become a resilient and scrappy ass-kicking machine.

There’s a reoccurring flashback throughout the movie that shows a group of bullies picking on Henry, and breaking one of his toys. Needing that one last motivational push to defeat Akan, Henry remembers the “you little pussy” pep talk from his father (Tim Roth), after he chased the bullies away. Henry’s mind was clogged up with fake memories centered around his “wife,” Estelle (Haley Bennett), so he needed a spark from someone, who actually cared about him. Truly a wild series of events for the big final battle. That one memory from his father encouraging him to stand up for himself, so he can fight back against the bullies is what he needed to jump over that last hurdle to take out Akan.

And let’s not forget about Jimmy (Sharlto Copley), the man of many avatars, a clever scientist, and the brains behind Henry’s rebirth! Jimmy was seconds away from pulling the plug on Henry, but after some stern hand gestures and a good hard slap across the face from Henry, Jimmy came to his senses. Jimmy and Henry formed a bond as friends, united in their disdain for Akan.

Trust was a big issue for Jimmy, after he was betrayed and crippled by Akan. That’s why Jimmy’s farewell speeches (as himself and using the military soldier avatar) for Henry in the elevator sticks out as the big emotional moments, because Jimmy found a friend, who was willing to risk his life to help him. On top of that, Henry was one of Jimmy’s creations, who wasn’t corrupted or poisoned by Akan.

You’ll see the entire movie through Henry’s eyes, and he doesn’t speak one word from start to finish. And we only see a brief glimpse of his face through a reflection on a shard of glass, but we still know a lot about Henry. He’s tough, he doesn’t quit, and Henry’s got a big heart.

It was supposed to be over for Henry. He finds out Estelle is actually married to Akan. She worked together with Akan to use Henry as a test subject during a crazy field test, and Akan pummeled Henry to the point, where he was seemingly dead.

But Henry fought back, killed Akan, and he made sure to rub it in Estelle’s face. Showing Estelle her husband’s mangled head wasn’t enough for Henry. When a distraught Estelle demanded answers from Henry, he had one simple response: using his own blood, Henry wrote the letters “EZ” together on the inside of the helicopter. Ouch, that’s gotta sting for Estelle.

Henry defeated Akan, the deranged and powerful telepath. He stopped Akan’s army of super soldiers from destroying the world, and he helped Jimmy find peace and closure before his death. Not bad for a guy, who was previously nothing more than a mutilated and dismembered corpse, without the capability to speak, huh?

Coming Attractions- Black Phone 2

Director- Scott Derrickson

Release Date- October 17, 2025

Ethan Hawke’s excellent performance was the big highlight in the original Black Phone. Hawke’s The Grabber was a villain, who was equal parts creepy and menacing, and the mask was the perfect accessory.

Heavy Freddy Krueger-esque vibes for the sequel. They’re going with the supernatural route for The Grabber, and the snowy setting looks like a good fit for this one. Considering the fact that The Grabber is now able to attack his victims in their dreams, I’m guessing this won’t be a one and done sequel.

I honestly don’t have a problem with the possibility of more Black Phone films. Of course, keeping the core together is important. After the original Sinister and the first Black Phone film, it’s easy to see Scott Derrickson and Ethan Hawke’s potential as a promising actor/director duo. On the writing side of things, if Robert Cargill is still involved with the scripts, we’re hopefully looking at a horror franchise that won’t completely fall off the rails after two films.

Coming Attractions- The Boy From Below

Director- Tory Jones

Release Date- Currently Unknown

I ran across The Boy From Below on Bloody Disgusting’s Twitter page. I’ve never seen the movie, but apparently The Boy From Below is a retelling of The Wicked One (2017).

Eh, I guess The Boy From Below could be a decent enough film? Halloween, the small town haunted by gruesome murders, and the tragic story of a scream queen B-movie actress are all good ingredients for a slasher. Add in Felissa Rose and Dee Wallace, and there’s a chance they might have something here. I don’t have high expectations for this, but The Boy From Below could possibly satisfy the October/Halloween season fix for horror movies, and maybe that’s enough.

Coming Attractions- V/H/S Halloween

Directors- Bryan M. Ferguson, Casper Kelly, Micheline Pitt-Norman, R.H. Norman, Alex Ross Perry, Paco Plaza, Anna Zlokovic

Release Date- October 3, 2025 (Shudder)

It’s that time of year again!

I’m kind of surprised it took them this long to go with a full-on Halloween theme, but I’m always ready for another V/H/S film. You can always count on V/H/S to deliver a new movie during Halloween season, when the bigger horror franchises are on a hiatus, taking a break, or if we’re just waiting on the next sequel or a reboot. Yeah, I know the V/H/S films can be really hit and miss overall, or a bit too scattershot, but at least it’s something to look forward to for horror fans every year.

The trailer is completely bonkers as expected. Lots of violence and teases for gory madness, and I’m interested to see where they go with the trick-or-treating stuff. Also, it’s cool to see Paco Plaza’s name attached to this one, because I’ve always been a big fan of the first two [REC] films.

Jason Universe: Sweet Revenge (2025)(Minor Spoilers)

 **This post contains MINOR spoilers**

The Story- Harold (Chris Carlson), the caretaker, welcomes  Eve (Ally Ioannides), her fiancĂ©, Kyle (Toussaint Morrison), Troy (Tim James White), and Dana (Natassia Wakey) to a secluded cabin in the woods. But the group’s planned peaceful getaway is violently interrupted, when Jason Voorhees (Schuyler White) appears….

My Thoughts- Writer/director Mike P. Nelson squarely puts the spotlight on Ally Ioannides’ Eve. Eve starts out as someone, who’s shy and a little bit insecure, because she’s not quite sure why Kyle chose her.

Of course, Eve has to go through her phase of being the frazzled victim after Jason’s first attack. Towards the end, Eve makes a big transition to being a fierce and resilient fighter. She completely snaps, but there’s no screaming, or over the top hysterics from Eve. No, it’s more of a silent and strangely focused form of rage from her. Some good facial expressions and a solid performance from Ally Ioannides, and when the credits start rolling, you’ll understand why Eve is a “force of nature.”

Jason Voorhees is back! Honestly, I didn’t have a big problem with the look, Jason’s wardrobe, or the mask. Jason showed up, brutally murdered a lot of people, and he terrorized a group of friends, who just wanted to have some fun? Sweet Revenge easily checks off the important boxes for one of Jason Voorhees’ killing sprees.

Schuyler White? Just going by White’s movements and his demeanor as Jason, you can see he put a good amount of effort into staying true to the character. White does his best to capture the fine details for Jason. There’s no denying that, and you really can’t compare him to the likes of a Kane Hodder, or Ted White (my personal favorite pick for the best version of Jason Voorhees). It’s a short film, and Jason makes his first appearance at a little bit past nine minutes for a movie that goes slightly over fifteen minutes. No short glimpses, or physical teases before the scene, where he grabs Eve. That’s it.

And let’s not forget, Sweet Revenge is sponsored by Angry Orchard Hard Cider! I expected the product placement throughout Sweet Revenge to be shameless to a point, where it’s impossible to ignore, but it’s really not that bad. Sure, you can clearly see the Angry Orchard branded bottles in more than one scene, but I did get a good laugh out of one scene, where Eve finds a corpse with a freshly picked apple stuffed into the victim’s mouth.

What’s important for me is, Sweet Revenge simply helps reintroduce Jason Voorhees. You’re reminded of how dangerous Jason is, a brutal force to be reckoned with. Hopefully, Sweet Revenge is the first sample sized serving for a potentially bright future, because Jason Voorhees is too big of a name in the world horror movies to just sit on the sidelines.

I would’ve preferred to see Jason’s return on the big screen. But the Friday The 13th remake was released in 2009. Sixteen years is way too long. Voorhees is more than worthy of a spot on anyone’s Mount Rushmore for horror icons/villains, so I’m just glad they finally gave us SOMETHING new.

Sweet Revenge sort of spirals out of control towards the end. One bonkers series of events after another, there’s a handful of ridiculous moments (Jason stabs Eve through her chest with a machete….and Eve miraculously pulls it out without bleeding to death), and it’s painfully easy to predict the sole survivor, or the final girl.

Still, it’s a harmless slasher short. A good amount of bloody violence, nasty gore, and the not so subtle foreshadowing (you know something bad is going to happen, when the motor for the fishing boat makes an appearance) sets up two gruesome kills. Chris Carlson’s Harold is a creepy old pervert, but his character also works as the harbinger of doom here. And there’s a good callback to the original Friday The 13th film, when Jason snatches Eve out of the canoe.

I’m not a huge fan of the modern trend, where almost everything needs to be some kind of shared universe, but I’m looking forward to the Crystal Lake series. For the first time in years, it looks like we’re actually seeing progress for Jason Voorhees. A short film, the Crystal Lake series, a new video game, and hopefully a full length feature film in the near the future? This is how it’s supposed to be done. Do a big rollout, and go all out for the kind resurrection that’ll drive Tommy Jarvis crazy!

Rating- 5/10
